Schlumbergera Truncata
Schlumbergera truncata
📖 About this plant
Schlumbergera truncata, commonly called Thanksgiving Cactus or Crab Cactus, is a beloved winter-blooming epiphytic cactus from Brazil’s coastal mountains. Unlike desert cacti, it grows on tree branches in humid, shaded rainforests. Its flat, segmented stem pads have distinctive pointed teeth along the margins, resembling crab claws. The spectacular flowers appear in late autumn to early winter, just in time for the holiday season, with cascading blooms in vibrant shades of pink, red, white, and lavender. Individual plants can live for decades and even become family heirlooms, producing more abundant flowers as they mature. It’s one of the most rewarding and reliable flowering houseplants.
