Bheru
Chloroxylon swietenia
📖 About this plant
Chloroxylon swietenia (East Indian satinwood or ‘Bheru’ in Odia, also called Bhirra) is a medium deciduous tree of the Rutaceae family. The tree yields valuable ‘satinwood’ — a hard, yellow, lustrous timber prized for fine furniture, inlay work, and decorative veneer. Wood has a characteristic satin sheen when polished. The tree is naturally found in dry deciduous forests of central and southern India. Essential oil from leaves is used in perfumery.
