Saguan
Tectona grandis
📖 About this plant
Tectona grandis (teak or ‘Saguan’ in Odia, also called Teak/Sagon) is one of the world’s most valuable timber trees — native to India and Southeast Asia. The tree bears large ovate leaves and large panicles of white flowers. Wood is extremely durable, strong, and resistant to termites and decay — used for premium furniture, ship building, and construction. India is one of the world’s largest teak producers (~12 million m³ growing stock). The tree is extensively planted in agroforestry for long-rotation (30-60 year) timber crops.
