Dhaura
Anogeissus latifolia
📖 About this plant
Anogeissus latifolia (axlewood or ‘Dhaura’ in Odia, also called Bakli) is a medium to large deciduous tree of the Combretaceae family. The tree is one of India’s most important timber species in dry deciduous forests — wood is extremely hard, durable, and used for agricultural implements, carts, construction, and charcoal. Bark yields tannin and a yellow dye. Leaves are used as green manure. The tree is naturally found in dry deciduous forests of central and southern India. Gums exuded from the tree (dhaura gum) are used in pharmaceuticals and adhesives.
