Mohul
Madhuca indica
📖 About this plant
Madhuca indica (syn. Madhuca longifolia — mahua or ‘Mohul’ in Odia, also called Mahua) is a large deciduous tree of the Sapotaceae family. The tree produces fleshy flowers that are eaten fresh, dried, or distilled into mahua liquor — a major tribal beverage in central India. Seeds yield mahua oil used in soap-making and as an edible oil. Wood is hard and used for furniture and construction. The tree is culturally sacred in many tribal communities.
