Sajana
Moringa pterygosperma
📖 About this plant
Moringa pterygosperma (syn. Moringa oleifera — drumstick tree or ‘Sajana’ in Odia, also called Sahjan) is a fast-growing deciduous tree of the Moringaceae family. The tree bears fern-like pinnate leaves and long cylindrical pods (drumsticks) used as a vegetable. Leaves are among the most nutrient-dense plant foods — rich in protein, vitamins A and C, calcium, and iron. Seeds yield ben oil used in cosmetics and as a water purifier (coagulant). The tree is drought-tolerant and is extensively cultivated in tropical India.
