Harida
Terminalia chebula
📖 About this plant
Terminalia chebula (Haritaki or ‘Harida’ in Odia, also called Harda) is a large deciduous tree of the Combretaceae family. The tree is one of the three components of Triphala — the most famous Ayurvedic formula (along with Amla/Emblica officinalis and Bahada/Terminalia bellirica). Haritaki is considered the ‘king of medicines’ in Ayurveda — used for digestive disorders, respiratory complaints, and as a rejuvenative tonic. Fruits are yellow ovoid drupes that ripen to black. Wood is hard and used for furniture and construction.
