Travelers Palm
Ravenala madagascariensis
📖 About this plant
Despite its common name, the Travelers Palm is not a true palm but a member of the bird-of-paradise family. Its most striking feature is the enormous, fan-shaped arrangement of banana-like leaves arranged in a single plane, aligned roughly east-west — supposedly helping lost travelers find direction. The leaf bases accumulate rainwater, providing a drink for thirsty travelers. A spectacular architectural plant for tropical gardens.
