Vanda
Vanda spp. and intergeneric hybrids (Vascostylis, Rhynchovanda, etc.)
📖 About this plant
Among the most spectacular and culturally significant orchids, Vandas produce large, round, flat flowers in brilliant shades of blue, purple, pink, red, yellow, and white with contrasting patterns. The famous V. coerulea (the ‘blue orchid’) and its hybrids are among the most prized. Most are grown bare-root in baskets with thick, silvery aerial roots hanging freely. They demand bright light, high humidity, and warm temperatures — a rewarding challenge that yields some of the most breathtaking blooms in the orchid world.
🧑🌾 Care requirements
Bright indirect to full sun (6+ hrs)
Daily misting or soak weekly

No traditional potting medium — best grown bare-root in empty baskets or mounted on slabs; roots must receive abundant air circulation and light; some growers use large chunks of bark or charcoal
Balanced orchid fertilizer at half strength weekly during warm months; these heavy feeders benefit from frequent, dilute feeding; reduce frequency in cooler months but do not stop entirely
