Bandari
Bruguiera gymnorrhiza
📖 About this plant
Bruguiera gymnorrhiza (large-leafed mangrove or ‘Bandari’ in Odia) is a large mangrove tree of the Rhizophoraceae family. The tree produces distinctive large knee roots (pneumatophores) for gas exchange in waterlogged mangrove mud, and large viviparous propagules that germinate while still attached to the parent tree. Bark yields high-quality tannin for leather and dye. Wood is hard and used for construction and charcoal.
